Everything you need to play a full game, in the order you'll need it.

The goal

  • Two players start on opposite sides of a 9x9 board. You win by reaching any square on the far row.
  • Each player has 10 walls. A wall blocks two squares wide and never disappears once placed.

Moving your pawn

  • On your turn you either move one square orthogonally or place a wall, never both.
  • You may not move through a wall, and you may not move diagonally unless a jump forces it.

Jumping

  • If your opponent stands on an adjacent square, you jump straight over them and land behind.
  • If a wall or the board edge sits directly behind them, you instead step diagonally around them.

Placing walls

  • Walls sit in the grooves between squares and span exactly two squares.
  • Walls may not overlap or cross another wall.
  • A wall is illegal if it leaves either player with no path at all to their goal row, blocking is allowed, sealing is not.

Strategy in three lines

  • Count shortest paths. A wall is worth playing when it costs your opponent more steps than it costs you.
  • Walls are a currency: running out means your opponent can shape the rest of the board alone.
  • In a pure race with no walls left, whoever is on move with the shorter path wins, check the count before you spend.
